An Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) ideally consists of three gyro axes measuring rotation, three accelerometer axes measuring accelerations, a Processor Board, a Power Supply and a Housing including Mechanics and Connector. Other configurations are possible and can easily be designed using the modular Inertial Sensor Concept.

Advantages of this technology are that individual requirements deriving from e.g. missile guidance, vehicle control and platform stabilization easily can be met and implemented. Higher system level solutions like Navigators and Attitude Heading Reference Systems can be achieved by integration of navigation software and GPS with the IMU.

With no moving parts the IMUs are insensitive to shocks and high vibration levels. They offer a high reliability and a high life time without the need for periodic maintenance thereby reducing Life Cycle Cost.
